A student in a lecture with Bill Gates asked him, Is there anybody richer than you? Bill Gates thought about it and replied yes there is. He told a story about a newspaper vendor in a New York airport. He told this story. I saw a newspaper vendor and I wanted to buy a newspaper but as soon as I went to the counter I found that I didn't have enough change. So I started to give the newspaper back to the vendor. I told him of not having enough of the change for the paper. The vendor said I'm just going to give this to you for free. I took the paper and went off and boarded my plane. After two or three months I was back at that same airport and again I was short of change for a newspaper. The same vendor offered me the newspaper, again for free, I refused and said I couldn't take it cuz I don't have enough of the change today. He said you can take it, I'm sharing this from my profit. I won't be at a loss. So he took the newspaper. 19 years later, Bill said I had become famous and known by people everywhere. Suddenly I remembered that newspaper vendor from years ago. I searched and searched for him and after a month or two I finally found him. I went and saw him and I asked do you know me? He said “yes”, I asked Him do you remember giving me a newspaper for free? The vendor replied “yes I remember I gave it to you twice.” I said I want to repay that help you offered me at that time. So whatever you want in your life tell me and I shall fulfill it. The vendor said “sir I don't think that by doing so you will be able to match my help.” Bill asked why, he said I helped you when I was a poor newspaper vendor and you're trying to help me now when you become the richest man in the world. So how can your help match mine. Bill Gates said I realized that the newspaper vendor was richer than I was because he did not wait to become rich to help somebody else in need.
This leads me to understand that the truly rich are those who possess a kind heart rather than a lot of money. If wealth is measured by kindness towards others, how rich would you really be? If you knew that kindness created riches how rich would you become with that knowledge? What would you do to build your wealth? How creative, innovative, persistent would you become with your kindness? So my dear friends, go out there and build your wealth today by seeing how much kindness you can deliver to those around you.
I work each day to be rich in kindness and in most ways I succeed. I am working to find new creative ways to be kind and have an influence on more people.
According to a Harvard study of game theory they found that Nice guys actually finish first. Being kind will actually make you more money! So let’s become rich in kindness and make some money!
