Marc Merco is a Boxer and Wrestler. He tells a great story about his past. In high school he got into drugs and alcohol. He would come home late and his Mom would be waiting up. He didn’t get it for many years but found that it is about who you spend your time with that makes you. His mom always believed in him. It is a story that you can probably relate to. There are times when people want my time or attention and it is not convenient for me. There are times when I put other people in front of my family. Because friends and being needed are what are important right! Do you know and act on only those things that are important? I sure still work on that.
Ask yourself who is there for you? When I’m down or in trouble, who are the ones that call me, who makes sure I’m ok, who gives me a hug and helps me feel safe? When I break up or lose a friend, who is it that helps me to feel happy, loved and worthy?
Why is it important who I choose as friends? “You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with.” – Jim RohnThis is based on the law of averages. So who is it that you spend time with and why do you want to be with them?
So many of us go through life and we are the average. Is that where your parents or family want you to be? Is Average what you are here on earth to accomplish? Are you content being the average? My parents always wanted more for me than being average. My mom like Marc’s has always believed in me.
You can find out what is important to you by finding out who you are and learning from the conversations, thoughts, and questions you have with yourself. Ask yourself, when those that I love pass away what will my discussion with them be?
Do you have a tight inner circle of people that believe in you and do they help you to achieve at a high degree? Who are those people?(Write down on paper, make a list of who you spend your days with.)
Next, ask yourself, How happy, enthusiastic or successful are they? Do those people reach for some of the things I want? Do we push each other or do we slide together? What do you and those you spend time with talk about?
Evaluate: do they help me to feel good about myself and my life? The people you spend time with are great people, I'm sure. But do these people live on the next level up or down from you? Do these people have what you want out of life? What type of person are you to those around you?
What kind of friend are you?
What do you require of those that you spend time with? What do those that spend time with you require of you? Are you getting what you want from life? Is who you are spending time with working for you?
