Hey y'all! Welcome to My Podcast Black Girl Talks POP! I'll be discussing Laboum, a girl group that's received some renewed interest from K-pop fans with their comeback Journey to Atlantis. In this episode, I'll discuss their reality show Laboum Project, review their mini-album Love Sign, and rant about some enemies of progress I don't like. Check out my Patreon for my review of their album Two of Us and more enemies of progress, which includes the behavior of a certain YouTuber in the beauty/commentary space.
Disclaimer(s): First, I want apologize for any audio issues in advance. Also, I don't know any of these people, so I'm not speaking on anyone's behalf. I just make comments based on the words and actions of others. I don't intend to cause harm or offense, but I apologize for any words which could have communicated a lack of empathy or intentional thoughtlessness. Please respectfully let me know what I could have said better or seen in a different light. I want to keep learning so I can create opportunities for conversation and change, and I hope that you will grow with me.
Corrections/Clarification Corner:
- Please note that the most recent episode, "Kelly, can you handle this?" is an audio podcast only.
- Laboum is signed to the joint venture Global H Media.
- Sungmin has been on hiatus from the Super Junior since 2015.
- Correction on what ZN said: According to the translation provided by Laboum Projec Subs, ZN is saying, "Become nice...become lighter" to her skin.
- I apologize for not using inclusive language in my colorism conversation. PEOPLE (not just those who identify as a man or woman), have been oppressed by colorism around the world.
- During Hello Baby, Sooyoung calls Yuri dirty because of her own internalized colorism. Yuri's dark skin is not to blame for Sooyoung's prejudice. I also want to add that Soori themselves may have lost opportunities because people discriminated against them due to colorism.
- I would love to see a darker idol with a cute concept flourish as well!
- Even in Western nations, colorism affects darker Black and brown people's ability to build generational wealth for their families, although the discrimination faced by marginalized communities may be less explicit.
