"As opposed to tearing each other down, we need to be surrounding ourselves with kind and diverse friends to help build each other up!" -Jackie and Hannah
Welcome back to Dive Right In with Jackie and Hannah! This week, we start off the episode by discussing what we look for in a friend and how to best look out for each other in these trying times. We also define our terms by elaborating on what toxicity means. Despite the importance of fluidity in definitions, we believe that education is the key to informed activism! We then dive into the bulk of the episode by discussing what toxic masculinity is. It's important to be able to both identify toxic masculinity, and be armed to address it in a safe and effective manner. We further this discussion by touching on "mansplaining" and discuss how prevalent it is in today's society. Moving onto how friendships can become toxic, we encourage everyone to find ways to spread positivity, yet be able to recognize the harmfulness of toxicity in others. Mindsets can also become toxic, so it's important to reach out in times of need and locate mental health resources. We conclude the episode by talking about positive goal setting and reminding ourselves that healing doesn't come overnight; it is a journey that takes time. Stay safe and wear a mask!
Love,
Jackie and Hannah
