Weight Loss and Fat Loss are often lumped into the same conversation.



They shouldn't be.



They are two VERY different things.



Weight loss is what your mom did in the 70s,80s,90s, doing tons of aerobics, zumba, Jenny Craig, and Weight Watchers.



Remember how excited she got about the scale going down 5 lbs?



The modern-day equivalent of weight loss are these low-carb, low-fat, FAD/CRASH diets along with sweaty, endorphin-inducing, heart racing exercise classes.



There is nothing wrong with bootcamp/HIIT workouts, but if you want to be "toned" you have to build muscle tone.



Building muscle means progressive overload, increasing the weight, reps, sets, volume, and overally INTENSITY.



This means some of my clients are now resting 2-4 minutes between sets when they used to rest 30 seconds.



It's not sexy. It's not sweaty.



Working 2-4 reps close to failure is key to building muscle. If you have still have 5-10 reps left in the tank, you are not lifting heavy enough.



Adding weight to the bar every week should be the goal if you want to build muscle, and using a 5lb dumbbell during your bootcamp workout is not going to build muscle.



Another key point is a calorie deficit.



If you are in too much of a deficit, you will not build muscle, you will LOSE WEIGHT.



This is not what you want, because you are just going to look the same, only smaller.



If you want to lose FAT, a moderate calorie deficit is key.

A moderate deficit will help you continue to build muscle while losing fat and feeling good while you are doing it.



Lift Heavy. Eat More. Less Cardio. Less Sweatiness. More Protein. More Steps.
