Hello everyone and welcome to Episode 15!
My guest this week is Leah aka @wellnessmedic. Leah is such a lovely person to chat with! She is a Sheffield Medical Student and also a Mental Health Campaigner and Content Creator.
In this episode Leah shares her journey to Medical School and her experience with Widening Access programmes, highlighting why these are so vital for inclusion in our Medical Schools. Leah also shares how she started struggling with her mental health and how she bravely sought help. Leah decided to put her mental health first and took a year out of medical school to get better and also get to know herself better- and I am so glad she shares this experience! Taking care of your mental health is SO IMPORTANT, in fact it should absolutely come first. I am so glad we have people like Leah sharing about their stories to help others who may be struggling and feel like they are alone facing these feelings.
Remember that if you are struggling you are not alone and there are many people out there to help you.
Mental Health charities that support students include: Student Minds (www.studentminds.org.uk) Student Space (https://studentspace.org.uk ) and Samaritans (www.samaritans.org)
Reaching out for help at university: your personal tutor, your welfare advisor, your head of year or any member of faculty that you trust and feel comfortable opening up to- they will point you in the best direction for support.
Please also seek help from your GP, they are there for you.
