Righteousness, Justice and Mercy must be kept together, practiced all together. The person of righteous character will be concerned about justice. People who are passionate to see justice done in the world will only accomplish anything of lasting value if they work from a platform of personal integrity, of strong character.
Then we come to recognize that justice done is necessary but not enough ... that justice simply allows us to start again from a better place ... that mercy is the ultimate prize, the redemptive goal. Finally, we realize it is only the extravagance of mercy expressed in Jesus that secures our righteousness when our own righteousness falls short, that empowers our efforts to achieve justice when our pursuit of justice is incomplete. The miracle of mercy --- unconditional, unreasonable, unrestrained love --- covers a multitude of sins and overrides all injustice...
“Power at its best is love implementing the demands of justice. Justice at its best is power removing everything that stands against love.” [ML King]
