Today, we will be talking with students about Martin Luther King Jr. and the legacy he left and the message that sends to teens today. This idea was inspired by the book Dear Martin, by Nic Stone. Like Angie Thomas, Nic Stone is an African American author writing about the social injustices teens struggle with today. In her novel, Dear Martin, a 17 year old black male, Justyce begins an experiment that he calls “What would Martin Do?” He does this by writing letters to Martin Luther King Jr. asking his advice and comparing their situations as he grapples with the racism that he sees in his school and community.
