With the World Cup due to start in a little over a fortnight, John B hosts a throwback to the last time Scotland were involved in FIFA's premier tournament. He's joined by Krys who watched the action having just left school (yes it's that long ago), and Kevin who actually got to France in the summer if 1998.
Recapping the qualification process that took Scotland to the position of best runner-up and avoiding the playoffs, the guys reminisce of Scotland's home games being on tour as they seemed to be several times during the 90s, as well as crucial results in places like Minsk, Riga and that time there was one team in Tallinn.
Moving onto the finals themselves, there was the initial reaction to the draw that means Scotland would open the tournament in Paris against the holders Brazil. It was then onto Bordeaux to face Norway before finishing the group in St Etienne against Morocco. The guys chat through each match of the group and their memories of not just the games themselves but the adventures along the way, the TV shows that were on around then, and even chat around the music choices.
Following Scotland's usual exit, there's chat about the rest of the tournament including the best strips and the best games, and obviously all the drama around the final itself between the hosts and the holders.
Hopefully next time the World Cup rolls around in 2026 we'll be looking forward to Scotland taking part once more and not just looking back through the mists of time to our last involvement. Ach we'll have Euro 2024 under our belt by then too!
