Road Running. It’s like the weather. Fickle. One minute you’re flying, the next you’re becoming best buds with your physio to overcome the latest ailment in your foot/calf/toe/shin you name it. Meet Fran Lang, trail and endurance runner, super mum and full-time worker. Trail running found Fran at an opportune time in life! Recently married, promoted at work and planning to start a family, road running didn’t cut it. Injuries took their toll, and Fran wasn’t getting the fix her mind and body so needed. Through a friend the trails appeared. Soon Fran was getting greater variety in running, hills, scenery, social and serious fun. The pressure of road running was replaced with the freedom of trails, and this flowed into other areas of her life. A whole other world of running opened up, and Fran threw herself into some trail events and immediately found her groove. Think 3am starts, back to back to back marathons and all of a sudden, Fran was hooked. She’d found the missing piece of the exercise puzzle, and the flow on effect to work/home life was noticeable. Soon after, Fran and her husband Matt learned the exciting news they were expecting a baby boy. This introduced all new challenges to their lives as the goal posts shifted when it came to exercise. Fran had to adapt her mindset quickly, re evaluate goals and come back to why she loves running in the first place. Listeners will learn great insights into creating opportunities for training and adjusting your expectations. The power of the mind. For those amateur athletes out there, I know you’ll appreciate Fran’s story. She’s one hell of a story teller, and I hope you take something away from this latest instalment of, The Amateur Hour.
