The murder of George Floyd and the mass protests that have been happening all over the country have pushed many Asian/Americans and other non-Black people to begin having difficult conversations about the biases, racism, and anti-Blackness that exist within themselves and their own communities. Although this is great to see, what is needed is sustained support—Black lives matter, not just today, but always—but many people out there may not know how exactly to go about doing that. So I asked my friends Emily Ndiokho, Amiri Tulloch, Michael Codrington, and Jungwoo Park to join me to have a conversation about Black and Asian solidarity. In part I of this conversation, we talk about the common narratives in the histories of both of our races, how race inherently dehumanizes, obstacles that stand in the way of solidarity, and more.
