If you’ve been watching the news recently, then you know about the protests and the killing of George Floyd. You may also have heard about Ahmaud Arbery and Breonna Taylor. Sadly, these types of tragedies happen all the time in America and they’ve been happening since the founding of our nation. I woke up this past Sunday with a feeling that I hadn’t experienced during past publicized killings of black folk. I woke up with a numbness. A deep consuming numbness that nothing that I could say or do would ever make a real difference. That nothing any of us could say or do would ever make a difference. I took my phone out and went to Facebook to see if I could summon up a compelling status. But I couldn’t. I’m making this podcast episode because I think other people may be feeling the same way too. Defeated, tired, beaten down. Numb. I want to give people a forum to say what they’re feeling right now and hear what other people are feeling as well. Maybe this could help in some small way and be a bit of comfort during these times. Maybe we can lean a bit on each other while trying to make some sense of everything happening around us.
I’m Amanda and I hope you’ll join my friend Mallory and I for Speak Your Truth Now! -a podcast event we’ll be posting Friday, June 12th. We’ll be sharing your truths so send a voice memo to speakyourtruthnowpodcast@gmail.com. We’ll also chat about resources for allies and what we can do to make a difference. Talk to you soon.
