262: Warren Buffett's 3 Steps to Success
From Dave Ruel’s book – Done by Noon https://amzn.to/3uMJUMR
The Story of Mike Flint, Warren Buffett’s pilot that wanted more out of life
Warren Buffet told him to do the following:
Step 1: Make a list of 25 goals (personal and professional)
Step 2: Make some tough choices, circle the five goals that held the most significance for him
Step 3: 2 lists – Top 5, Other 20
- Ensured they were meaningful and important
- “what about these other 20 things on your list that you didn’t circle?”
- Flint: Work on them when he wasn’t focused on the top 5
- “No, you’ve got it wrong Mike,” he said. “Everything you didn’t circle just became your ‘avoid at all cost’ list.
o No matter what, these things get no attention from you until you’ve succeeded with your top 5
Message was clear: If Flint wanted to succeed at anything, he had to learn to direct his time, energy, and attention to the goals that mattered most
Fight the temptation to achieve everything at once
If you have too many goals on your list, your setting yourself up for failure
