Coming from Mexico to the United States at a young age brought immense culture shock to José Avalos. Yet through a reliable school system, a good community of friends, and caring parents, Jose graduated from high school and college. He is now the director of programs at BASE, a non profit where he provides the same kind of mentorship that helped him get to where he is today.
