Description

Oh, my Lord above!

This is my sinners’ lot!

Though I came from Thy own hand,

Some goodness I forgot.

If I am bound to be a sinner,

Let me sin as I here do write,

Let me then sin, my Lord, in this hue of light.

Oh Lord let me be slothful,

Lazy to jump to any anger,

Slow and heavy to any rage –

Lord let my hatred be slothful

till I am ripe and old with age.

Oh, Lord let me be envious

Of more pious hearts than mine,

Let me be green with my envies,

To see all gestures good and kind –

Oh Lord make me so prideful

That I cannot turn away from to see,

Any loss of humanity through bleakest poverty.

Oh Lord make me wrathful

To my every evil thought.

Oh Lord make me stubborn

Against things I ought think not.

Oh my Lord bless me abundantly with Greed!

That I may collect smiles and cares,

Let me hoard and count them daily,

These my most precious wares.

Lord make me a glutton of healthy fruit and veg,

Make me drink like a drunkard upon fresh water, and grow

Spinach in my garden beds.

Oh my Lord make me lustful,

For life and love and song –

And help me find my virtues

From this plethora of wrongs.
