Oh come now and listen,
About the story of old,
Of the promised Messiah,
long since foretold.
From all the way back,
In the Old Testament,
Given were many signs,
And the old prophets were sent –
To proclaim a great victory,
For all of mankind,
To justify and renew and bring sight to the blind.
To raise and deliver the Lords many people,
To raise up a church,
An ever-reining steeple.
For Aged Zachariah,
and Elizabeth his wife,
had prayed for a child throughout their long life.
And inside the temple, where he lit the incense,
The Angel Gabriel appeared, and the Lords message expressed.
“Do not be afraid, Zachariah, your prayer has been heard!
Your wife will have a baby, for this is Gods Word!
A baby boy named John will prepare the way,
For the one who will save, humanity gone astray."
And it was so, as the Angel had stated,
Elizabeth became pregnant, and for their baby they waited.
Though faithful Zachariah could not say what he saw,
For his voice was taken for little while,
Until the baby was born.
Six months after the Angel spoke to Zachariah,
Gabrielle visited Mary, with news of the promised Messiah.
She was a virgin and betrothed to be wed,
She was gentle and beloved, and received a message heaven sent.
"Do not be afraid dear Mary, the Lord is with you.
I bring you news, excellent and true.
The spirit will touch you and you’ll conceive a son,
He’ll inherit the throne of King David,
For he is the chosen one.
You are to call his name Jesus,
For he is sent for the salvation of countless souls,
It was foretold many times in the ancient scrolls."
"Let it be done to me as you have said,
I am the Lords servant, and I say yes."
"Your relative Elizabeth, even though old with age,
Has blossomed in pregnancy and awaits the good day.
For I tell you, no word of the Lord can ever fail,
There is no limit and no excess of scale
All that he says will surely come to pass,
From ages unto ages, stretching and vast."
