The Devils most potent potion,
Most employed by his generals and slaves,
Upon already slothful humanity,
locks so many into their graves.
It is not bitterness, not regret,
Not lust, or indulgence that misguide...
But it is an easy form of indifference,
Rotting the soul from inside.
The Devils most potent and evil corrosion
This slowest, most steady, most acidic erosion…
The one that seduces with its evil elegance,
Is that deadly one, of simple, daily, negligence.
The good Samaritan gave the reasonable care,
Neglected by both the Priest and the Levit.
The man with the one talent, was cursed to despair,
Because he KNEW, did nothing,
and admitted it outright!
When one knows, but fails to act,
When one sees, but stays then slack,
When one hears, but is unresponsive,
One becomes a zombie, dull and unconscious.
You can destroy your children by just ignoring their lives,
A man destroys his marriage by ignoring his bride.
A woman can kill her child by just neglecting to feed it,
A government destroys a nation by neglecting to lead it.
Their lack of reasonable expected care,
To those who fall under their authority,
who are left to languish in filthy despair,
This apathy causes agony.
These sins of omission are born out,
Of an optional approach to our duty,
Diligence and Compassion then,
Are the only cure for this intolerable cruelty.
