We buy things we don't need with money we don't have to impress people we don't even like -- all because we think we must be liked by everyone in order to be happy. That's foolish! It's an emotional trap when you start worrying about what other people think.
Jesus said, "I only seek to please Him who sent me." —John 5:30 LB
Even Jesus didn't try to please everybody.
