Here’s a real quick thought. I go through great pains to use precise language when it comes to talking about Left and liberals. The two terms are commonly conflated, but it is ever apparent that they are two different groups. The modern Left want something very different than classical liberals. Many, including in the conservative commentary space use the term, out of habit, even carelessly. So, without going into a deep dissertation on the differences, (which I’m perfectly glad to do, just not now), here is a pretty good summary of each group’s main focus…
Liberals: Want to be allowed to do whatever they want.
The Left: Want to do whatever they want, and for you to do whatever they want.
Libertarians: Want to do whatever they want that doesn’t hurt others, and for others to do whatever they want, if it doesn’t hurt others.
As a bonus, I’ll throw one in for conservatives,
Conservatives: Basically, the same as libertarians, so long as it’s worked before.
