Angaaray was a collection of short stories by a small group of young writers- Sajjad Zaheer, Ahmed Ali, Rashid Jahan and Mahmud-uz-Zafar. It was published in 1932 and banned in 1933. Instead of getting extinguished, the ban fanned the fires of a new kind of writing - a brave and bold social commentary that had never been done before. Sajjad Zaheer along with his fellow writers established the All-India Progressive Writers' Movement & Association and revolutionised writing in India. Most well known writers of that and the next generation were part of this progressive writers movement.
