HABITS AS THE ENEMY
Colossians 3:5 AMP
So put to death and deprive of power the evil longings of your earthly body [with its sensual, self-centered instincts] immorality, impurity, sinful passion, evil desire, and greed, which is [a kind of] idolatry [because it replaces your devotion to God].
Habit means a settled or regular tendency or practice, especially one that is hard to give up.
2 Peter 2:19 NLT
They promise freedom, but they themselves are slaves of sin and corruption. For you are a slave to whatever controls you.
A habit is a learned behavior that becomes reflexive over time. The behavior is often triggered by a certain context. For example, you may automatically go brush your teeth after finishing breakfast as part of your morning routine.
2 Corinthians 10:4-6 NLT
We use God’s mighty weapons, not worldly weapons, to knock down the strongholds of human reasoning and to destroy false arguments. [5] We destroy every proud obstacle that keeps people from knowing God. We capture their rebellious thoughts and teach them to obey Christ. [6] And after you have become fully obedient, we will punish everyone who remains disobedient.
WHAT CORRUPTS OUR HABITS:
• Associations
1 Corinthians 15:33 NKJV
Do not be deceived: “Evil company corrupts good habits.”
• Pleasure & Deceit
Colossians 3:9 NLT
Don’t lie to each other, for you have stripped off your old sinful nature and all its wicked deeds.
2 Peter 2:13 NLT
Their destruction is their reward for the harm they have done. They love to indulge in evil pleasures in broad daylight. They are a disgrace and a stain among you. They delight in deception even as they eat with you in your fellowship meals.
• Unconfessed Sins
Romans 2:16 NLT
And this is the message I proclaim—that the day is coming when God, through Christ Jesus, will judge everyone’s secret life.
