In this epidose, I interview Jimmie Chengo. Jimmie is a 23-year old social entrepreneur who started Afribuk Society. Afribuk Society is a non-profit organization committed to promoting literacy within under-resourced communities. By supporting college and university students to share books and stories from their own lives with younger children, Afribuk Society promotes joyful literacy experiences in under-resourced communities through the power of stories and human connection. We begin our show learning about Jimmie’s childhood growing up in Kenya and navigating through his anxieties of school and finding his purpose. We then talk about the growth of Afribuk Society and its current projects in educating and spreading literacy among African youth. We switch gears to understand what the importance of storytelling is in society and its impact it has in enhancing the educational experience.
