“You shall call His name Jesus” (Matthew 1:21). That was the announcement of Gabriel to Joseph, repeated later to Mary, indicating the divine name that was to be given to the Christ-child. That name, “Jesus,” will be the focus of our attention this Sunday as Pastor Kevin concludes his Advent series, He Shall be Called. We learn that the brokenness of our world and the despondency of the human heart can be healed when we encounter this one named Jesus, the One who came for a unique purpose. In the words of theologian B.B. Warfield, He comes–He comes–O blessed day!–He comes to take my sin away!”
