Cannabis users need a lot more sedation
The widespread use of cannabis products has created opportunities for research into its impact on all areas of society and the medical field, in particular. Using sedatives is tricky business and for procedures such as colonoscopies, anesthesiologists are finding that patients who smoke pot or use cannabis edibles daily or weekly require a whole lot more medication to get them to float away. In a recent study, patients needed 14% more fentanyl, 20% more midazolam and a whopping 220% more propofol to achieve sedation for these routine procedures. Don’t even think about lying to the anesthesiologist who talks to you before the procedure. Tell the truth. This isn’t about judgment. It’s about keeping you from waking up once a tube has been put up your yee-haw. Be smart.
