Smartphone addiction can change your brain

We all know how powerful smartphones are, but do we really know what they can do to our brains?  New research proves that phones can change your brain’s physical shape and size.  If you can’t seem to live without your phone and you panic if it’s not nearby, you just might have a lower volume of grey matter in some key parts of your brain.  Grey matter is in the regions where thinking happens because the brain cells are there.  Plus, if you’re truly addicted to your smartphone, there’s less activity in your brain, overall.  These patterns are seen in drug addicts.  This research is the first of its kind to link cell phone use to actual changes in the brain.  Considering that 53% of kids younger than 7 have cell phones, we have to ask ourselves, “What are we doing?”  Remember this information when your 10-year old starts whining for a phone.  You wouldn’t give them vodka, would you?
