Why is sitting too much killing us?
Doctors want to know why sitting is killing us. Researchers set out to find the answer. They found a weight scale in our bodies and if we sit too long, the scale warns us, “Uh oh, your weight is too low, eat, eat!” We need to stand more in order for the scales in our body to actually read our weight accurately. The researchers put 2-pound vests on a group of volunteers and 24-pound vests on another group. Wearing the vests for 8 hours a day, those with the heavier vests lost 4 pounds in 3 weeks. The fat was reduced, but the muscle mass didn’t change. The fat was reduced far more than if someone exercised. The only important question left to answer is “What kind of fat was lost? Was it the dangerous stuff around the organs or the stuff just under the skin?” There’s lots to learn, but one thing you need to do is get up and move around!
