High blood pressure and overtime

Thinking of staying an extra hour at the office twice a week?  Think again.  All those extra hours help the company, but you’re playing fast and loose with your blood pressure.  If you’re working 49 hours a week, you’re 70% more likely to develop masked hypertension which is a hidden form of high blood pressure that’s really hard to diagnose.  It doesn’t show up on typical blood pressure tests.  If you’re at work 49 hours a week, you’re also likely to have the more regular, sustained high blood pressure than those who work less.  Who cares?  You will when you develop heart disease and kidney failure, but then, you’ll be in treatment mode which is painful and expensive.  Talk with your doctor about getting your blood pressure checked over longer periods of time by wearing a monitor.  Don’t wait until it’s too late.  Stay healthy for yourself and your family.
