Getting a second opinion is the smart thing to do

Got a health issue and you’re not sure about what you’re hearing from your doctor?  Then go to somebody else.  Take all of your records and see what someone else has to say.  Doctors have different levels of intelligence, experience, training and curiosity.  Just because they passed the licensing exams, doesn’t mean they know it all.  It doesn’t mean that they’re competent.  If you get a second opinion, there’s a 21% chance that you’ll come away with a different diagnosis and a 66% chance that you might leave with a refined version of your initial diagnosis.  Regardless, all of it is helpful and if it gets you on the right track and helps you to be confident in the treatment approach, then it’s worth the time and effort.  The more information you have, the more you can participate in treatment.  Go ahead.  Don’t worry about hurting the doctor’s feelings.  It’s your life, after all.
