Pot smokers have a lower pain tolerance
There’s an opioid epidemic in America. Researchers have been going full blast to learn the reasons for people getting hooked on the stuff. One of the surprising findings is that marijuana users feel more pain. Smoking pot and using it in other ways lowers pain tolerance. This means that in order to manage pain, those who smoke pot need about a third more painkillers than those who don’t. It’s critical for medical staff to have a true sense of how much a patient was typically consuming pot before they became ill or injured and needed to have their pain treated. It’s critical that pot-smoking patients truthfully describe their use. Otherwise, they may be undermedicated for pain and their recovery may take longer. If they’re overtreated and given more pills to take without follow-up or supervision, they may become addicted. Complete transparency is necessary for effective medical management.
