Topic - Premature Birth and Autism.  Children with autism have heavier brains with 67% more brain cells in the area behind the forehead than kids without autism.

These neurons are produced before birth and their larger numbers may be linked to autism and prematurity.

Ten percent of babies born before to 33 weeks and who have very low birth weight which is defined as less than 3 pounds, 5 ounces, had autistic behaviors at age 11. But why is it this way?

Prematurity influences later brain development in terms of cognition and attention.

Without attention, competent thinking and language skills don’t develop.  As a result, competent social skills don’t develop which impact relationships with peers.

Understand and minimize your child’s risks of being born too early and of having prematurity-related autistic behaviors.
