Even though you think Jared isn’t paying attention when you tell him how to shake an adult’s hand while looking her straight in the eye, repeated reminders will “take”.
When Jared is introduced to your boss, he will give a firm handshake, a strong, “How do you do?” while looking her straight in the eye. You will fall down.
It’s true it takes 100 times and on the 101st time you guide him, he’ll get it.
But remember, parents are farmers. We plant seeds again and again and eventually, see the harvest.
Many times, kids really “hear” the message when someone else tells them. Uncle Tony may say the exact same words you’ve been preaching and Jared will say, “Uncle Tony said that I should look a guy in the eye when I am shaking his hand. You know, it’s a guy thing, Mom”.
Again, don’t fall over. Just be glad the message got through.
