Description

Topic - Borderline Personality Disorder.  Borderline personality disorder is its own mental health diagnosis.  It doesn’t mean that it’s some kind of vague issue that’s “on the border” of becoming a problem.

The most famous film characters that depicted severe cases of BPD were Evelyn in Play Misty for Me” and Alex in Fatal Attraction.

75% of Borderline Personality Disorders are diagnosed in women.

There’s a great deal of disagreement as to the cause, but clearly, genetic and biological factors, trauma such as sexual abuse and early childhood factors play a role.

Chaotic relationships, anxiety, depression, impulsivity, anger, irritability and serious emotional instability characterize this disorder.

Fear of abandonment is a core issue.

Suicide attempts and substance abuse are common.

Early assessment and intervention is critical to reduce the fallout from this disabling condition.
