Topic - Intermittent Therapeutic Relationships.  When you don’t feel well, you go to the doctor.  When you feel fine, you don’t!

Why can’t it be this way when you have general questions about parenting and your child’s development?

What do you do when you can’t find the answers on your own and want to consult with a developmental specialist?  Do you have to go into therapy?

Consider asking a local child and adolescent therapist if they are open to what I call a “consultation” relationship.

I don’t do therapy, but as a diagnostician and child development specialist, I allow parents to come in with their list of questions with the understanding that it’s consultation and not therapy.

I explain that I might not be able to answer all of their questions because I don’t know their child.

Over the past 20 years, parents have come in repeatedly when their kids have reached new developmental stages and they want to be prepared for “what’s next”.

It’s proven to be enjoyable and productive.
