Topic - Emerging Adulthood.  Two decades ago, Jeffrey Arnett wrote about his research regarding a developmental phase he called “emerging adulthood” to address the transition between late teens and early 20s.

These kids seemed to have resolved the conflicts of the teen years and were becoming responsible for themselves, but remained close to their families.

What surprised Arnett was that this group was still struggling with their personal identity which was previously thought to have been settled during adolescence.

His extensive research revealed five ages of emerging adults including identity exploration, instability, self-focus, feeling in between and finally, the age of possibilities.

He found that many emerging adults want a lot out of life which means they’re headed for disappointment.

Help your emerging adult son and daughter develop realistic goals and plans to achieve them.
