Topic - Computer Addiction.  Ten years ago, I saw an article about the first residential treatment center in the world for internet addiction and it was in, of all places, China, where internet addiction is taken very seriously.

Worldwide, more of these centers are popping up because the need is increasing.

College students are failing because of computer game obsession.  Parents aren’t there to nag them about their work and in an unsupervised setting, they indulge.

Pathological use of the computer has led to unemployment, broken marriages and even death from blood clots from being sedentary for long periods of time.

We know too well about fatal car accidents related to texting.

The biggest problem is relapse.  Whereas alcoholics can avoid bars, computers are a way of life and learning to use them productively is a serious threat to recovery.

If your child’s computer use is causing family tension, get support for it.  The addictive behaviors will worsen and jeopardize academic performance and relationships.
