Topic - Kids Helping Raise Themselves. In the book, The Prophet, the author stated “children come through us, not from us”.
My take away message is that children are responsible, in part, for how they turn out. We parents aren’t wholly and completely responsible for how they end up.
What about the kids born into horrific circumstances that rise above and create the lives they hoped to live and not the ones they were born into?
Kids need to take an active part in raising themselves.
If they’re lucky enough to have nurturing parents, they serve as co-parents. If their parents are abusive or absent, they raise themselves.
If you’re a nurturing parent, let them know their role in all of this. Come right out and tell them that they’ll have a voice early in the process so that when you hand them the keys to their lives, they’ll know how to drive to their destiny.
It’s a lifelong partnership. At times, you’ll take the lead and at other times, they will.
Early practice leads to mastery of the skills. Get started!
