Topic - The Four "I's".  When I talk about 4 I’s, I’m not making fun of people with glasses!

I’m talking about the individualized, intensive instruction that’s needed immediately in order to support a student.

Intensive instruction includes speech and language therapy, educational or occupational therapy.

Specialized programs like Lindamood-Bell Learning Processes and CogMed may be recommended to give Carl the foundation he needs to benefit from classroom instruction.

Many of these therapies require daily participation which may not be feasible during the school day, so request that Carl have a “dual enrollment” schedule whereby he attends his treatment and then, returns to school.

These support systems need to be carefully timed to avoid having Carl feel punished for having learning problems.  He still needs to participate in sports and other activities that give him success.

It’s a balancing act, but it’s do-able.  Be creative.
