Topic - Boys More Likely To Take Antipsychotics.  Antipsychotic use in kids increases with age in both boys and girls until they’re 19.  But, boys are twice as likely as girls to be prescribed antipsychotics until the age of 12.  The pattern suggests these medications are being used to manage impulsivity and aggression rather than treating psychotic symptoms.  Boys are typically more aggressive and impulsive than girls and their behavior is more disruptive and frankly, scary.  Antipsychotics dull hyperactivity and regulate mood which reduces aggression.  Parents are in tough straights when it comes to these decisions. Do they let their children continue on a destructive path to no good end, or do they take their chances with science and the potential for side effects?  Whatever they decide, they need support from schools and family to cope with these extreme challenges.
