Topic - Reducing Sudden Infant Death Syndrome.
Ten babies die every day from Sudden Infant Death, so it’s important to pay attention to the Academy of Pediatrics’ Safe Sleep guidelines.
Babies should have their own sleep space and are not to sleep with parents; don’t dress them too warmly; keep the room cool; no soft materials in the crib; lay them on their backs; give a pacifier at nap and bedtime and don’t swaddle baby.
The AAP suggests skin-to-skin contact immediately after birth, tummy time and breast feeding.
No smoking of any kind in the house. Avoid alcohol, cigarettes, pot and drugs if you’re planning to get pregnant.
