Topic - The Marshmallow Test
Teaching our kids to delay gratification, consider consequences and be honest and integrous is quite an undertaking.
Where does your kid fall in terms of these goals? Try the marshmallow test.
Put out a marshmallow and tell your child if they don’t eat it, they can have two in a few minutes. Wait 7-10 minutes and see what happens.
Since the 1940s, 4-5 year old kids have been evaluated using the test and were followed up as adults to see if they had finished college, had higher incomes or were overweight.
The results indicated that kids who failed the test, didn’t fare as well in adulthood as those who resisted temptation.
It’s not the case that all kids who fail the test are doomed, but those who were on their way to developing these critical life skills were ahead of the curve.
Since mastery take practice, set up chances for your child to learn them in small steps. Practice, practice, practice.
