Topic - Your Personality Does Change
Previously, we thought that personality was “set in stone” by age six. Doesn’t leave much room for improvement, does it?
The good news is that research was wrong.
In an unprecedented study, it was learned that we change a lot as we grow older.
People tested at age 14 were tested 63 years later on the same six traits and here’s what happens: If you’re a self-conscious, moody and impulsive teenager, you’ll calm down due to having jobs and becoming parents.
In general, maturity brings about better and more stable moods.
We become social for a few years and then, isolate as we age. We accept ourselves.
The key traits tested in the research were: self-confidence, perseverance, mood stability, conscientiousness, originality and the desire to excel.
None of the traits was stable over sixty years. Everything changes. There’s hope for us after all.
