Topic - Adult ADHD

In the past, psychologists weren’t really “allowed” to diagnose adults with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder.  We called it “adult residual ADHD”.

ADHD can appear in early adulthood even when symptoms weren’t seen in childhood.

Previously, the symptoms had to appear before age 7, now, it’s 12.  Seventy-five percent of adults diagnosed didn’t have symptoms as kids.

Maybe it’s the stress of supporting themselves or going to college that reveals the symptoms as they enter adulthood.

These adults can benefit from clinical attention including medical management, education about the disorder and therapies to improve organization, social skills, time management and conflict resolution.

Adults with ADHD deserve attention, too.
