Topic - Muscular Seniors Have Stronger Brains, Too

Seniors who maintain strong muscles have stronger brains, too. There’s a link between muscle strength in the upper and lower body and thinking skills in older adults. Previously, a connection was documented between muscle strength and a lower risk of Alzheimer’s. There were no definitive statements as to why the connection exists, but from a common sense standpoint, exercise reduces cardiac risk as well as the vulnerability to develop diabetes and have a stroke. Exercise reduces blood pressure and promotes healthy sleep and this may be where the real benefit lies. Sufficient sleep allows the cerebrospinal fluid to clean out debris and toxins from the brain, specifically, beta amyloid which is a protein found in the brains of those who’ve died from Alzheimer’s Disease. Seniors, get out there and move around! Exercise your body and your brain!
