Crime scene forensics became better known with the Crime Scene Investigation series in two thousand. But it’s an ancient science. As the story goes, in thirteenth century China, a field worker was killed with the same kind of sickle that everyone used. Who was the killer? The investigator asked all of the workers to lay down their sickles because he observed that blowflies seek out blood. Once the sickles were laid down, the investigator knew the identity of the killer. Forensic science is evolving at a very quick pace. In twenty-fifteen, a chemist discovered that the ridges on a fingerprint release an acid at a predictable rate which allows the police to determine when the prints were made. If they were made at the time of the crime, bingo, we’ve got new evidence! It’s an exciting and important field for your child to consider as a profession.
