The opioid epidemic is reaching critical mass. One of the reasons is that opioid abuse isn’t limited to social and economic classes. Most of the time, it’s prescribed for you and now, it’s got its teeth deep into your bones. Researchers are trying to find out where it starts. Emergency room doctors prescribe sixty oxycodone pills for a sprained ankle, forty pills to a mother who’s had a Caesarean and the mentally ill are the largest group of opioid recipients. One hundred forty two Americans of all stripes are dying of it daily. Every three weeks, that’s equal to the nine eleven death toll. It’s the most vicious epidemic in American history. It’s also a national crisis for death investigators. Police and coroner’s offices are required to determine the cause of death for each one of its victims. Don’t be fooled. Don’t accept opioid treatment for minor pain.
