Topic - Talk To Yourself To Relieve Stress
Have you ever been caught talking to yourself? Think you’re crazy? You’re not, especially if you refer to yourself in the third person because you’re disengaged and observing yourself from the outside. If you speak to yourself about a situation and using the third person, “Sarah, why in the world did you do THAT?”, it’s less painful. When you think and refer to yourself by your name instead of I or me, it’s similar to how we think about others. In this way, we get some psychological distance from our experience which can help make our emotions more manageable. It’s a way to “get ahold of ourselves” and bring our reactions more to the middle so that we can effectively problem solve without serious self-criticism. Just a thought.
