Topic - Just Do It. The Nike shoe company had a campaign slogan of “Just do it” that meant a lot to me.
For years, I’ve banned the word “try” from my professional and personal vocabularies and encouraged others to do the same.
The word “try” means to make an attempt, but my sense is that there is a connotation of expected failure. When people weakly answer, “I’ll try” when you ask them to floss their teeth daily, you know it’s not going to happen.
When you “just do it”, you always succeed to some degree even if you only “get up, dress up and show up”. You may not perform the job well, but you did not fail. Your intention was to succeed. You’ll do better next time.
I’ve heard it said that “There ain’t nothing to it but to do it”. So, don’t “try” to do it, just do it. “Practice” instead of “try”. You get good at what you practice.
Perform an activity repeatedly in order to improve, so stick with it, focus on it and watch your skills grow.
