Topic - The thrill-seeking gene
Are you one of those people who just can’t stay faithful? Persistent cheating just might be in your genes. The discovery of a thrill-seeking gene that operates in the reward system of the brain makes us vulnerable to alcoholism, drug abuse and gambling addictions. For others, it makes us vulnerable to promiscuity. The desire to cheat appears to arise out of the brain’s pleasure or reward center and that rush, that thrill, that’s the dopamine flowing. Dopamine is the brain’s reward juice and the thrill-seeking gene causes it to flow when there’s an opportunity to engage with as many others as possible. There is the excitement of violating the rules, the chase, the danger of getting caught. Some people are just wired to behave this way. They seem to be unable to help themselves. Does this sound like your relationship? Maybe it’s not their fault, but it sure is their responsibility.
