Topic - Do you have playdate safety fears?
What information do you need to know before you let your child play at a friend’s house? If you’re like half of the nation’s parents, you’d turn down that invitation due to concerns for your child’s safety. Parents’ primary concerns are about their child being left unsupervised, hearing foul language, getting ahold of medications and other harmful substances and getting hurt. Going to a friend’s house to play encourages independence, gives them the chance to interact with other kids in an unstructured setting and to have fun with a friend. Still only 25% of parents have been asked about safety issues before hosting a playdate. Why? It’s uncomfortable and insulting to ask a host if your child will be safe in their care. But do ask about trampolines, guns, dogs and pools. Let them know your child is curious and very capable of getting into things he shouldn’t.
