Topic - Social media stresses vanity, leads to eating disorders
Social media focuses on beauty and having a perfect life. The message is these are the only things that matter in life. A new study indicated that Snapchat and Instagram are the most popular among teens and are the most psychologically harmful. Today’s teens have grown up with smartphones and they are digitally savvy. Kids are great observers of life and have only a developing sense of what it means. They don’t see the dangers of focusing on appearance which too often results in eating disorders in both boys and girls. They skip meals and put themselves through very rigorous exercise routines. The more social media accounts a teenager has, the more time they spend on them and the greater the chance they’ll develop an eating disorder or have a poor body image. Help your teen to appreciate their worth through relationships, values and abilities.
